Findlay Church – often referred to as “Findlay” is located on the north side of the River Clyde and just north of the city centre, close to the famous Sauchiehall Street and Great Western Road. We are just off Maryhill Road, close to St George’s Cross Underground.
Don’t look for a traditional church building. The main church building is actually behind the tenement building with pend access through the tenement. It was built in 1894 to seat about 800 people, extended in 1914 to seat 1200 to meet the growing interest in Christian worship at that time. Founded by Pastor David Jack Findlay, the Church was a thriving and famous preaching centre in Glasgow. In recent years the church took over an adjacent shop premises and made it the Church Office.
A few years ago Findlay Family Network was founded to help and support local families. In 2015, this changed to Findlay Community Ministry linking in with Bethany Christian Trust who have a presence in the Church office. Findlay Church also partnered with Clay Community Church to open a Drop-in Centre shop in Saracen Street in Possil.
The Church Today
The congregation has a healthy mix of ages; lots of babies, children and youth, with a good number of students, young families and more “mature” age groups. Worship is quite contemporary with praise bands leading the worship. The church has an emphasis on Bible teaching, discipleship and spiritual growth. Small groups meet around the city and Christianity/Discipleship Explored courses are held as needed.
There is an active children and youth programme run by the Youth Team. Charlene Petersen is our Youth Worker who heads-up the work among the teens in the Church.
There are a number of ministry teams with elders and deacons, members and adherents all involved in a wide team ministry, headed up by our elders and pastor, Peter Collison.
We are excited about worshipping God, learning more about him through the Bible, living out our Christian lives in the world and sharing our faith with others. If you want to be part of this, please pay us a visit or call into the church office for more details.
